  1. Wonderful!! I made the batter up and while it set, I heated the oil and got everything ready to fry. I made shrimp, chicken bites, and pineapple chunks. Served all of this with a sweet and sour sauce, over rice. Added a few sauted green pepper slices, oh my, it was so good!! Thank you Barbara, this will get a lot of use!

  2. I used this batter for sweet and sour pork which I cooked then stir-fried with green peppers, onions, and carrots along with Beachgirl's "Chinese Sweet and Sour Sauce" recipe #54625. It turned out excellent and is definitely something I will prepare again, with pork, and also with shrimp and perhaps chicken. Thanks for a great recipe!

  3. This recipe is very good and easy. My grandaughter and I used it when we made sweet and sour shrimp and lemon chicken. I will definitely use it again. It will also go in a recipe book I am making for all my grandchildren. Peggy Loessin Albuquerque, NM

  4. I've only deep fried anything once before, but I wanted that crunch to my shrimp. I had "large" Shrimp, but really they weren't very big at all. I tried to cook to 5 minutes but I was fearful that the size of the shrimp would be overcooked and rubbery. Anyway, I made a great sweet and sour sauce with pineapple pieces and all in all it was very good. Frying battered anything is very messy. LOL

  5. I did what I saw a Japanese chef near my house do and added a tablespoon of vodka, just add 1 tablespoon less water and make sure everything is ice cold. It makes for a nice puffy batter without the grease..the oil has got to be at 360 to 365 to ensure they don't absorb to much oil, I use peanut oil to fry these. War Hip Har shrimp is also easy with this batter, just add the blanched bacon and wrap around the shrimp before you dip in batter, and the sauce is basically the same as a sweet and sour but with some pineapple and a tiny bit of ketchup added and served over shredded lettuce as appetizers...yum!

Zaar...Wow, what a place! I'm one of the old timers of Zaar. I can't count the number of wonderful dishes I cooked in the past few years since joining. Along the way I have had the pleasure of meeting several Zaar chefs. Talk about your fruits and nuts! lol. I have enjoyed meeting them all.Family: What's to say...I have had the same sweet husband forever (Good thing....I'd hate to have to break a new one in...=) and live close to a couple of grown children. (Maybe you've met Smoke Alarm Jr. ..her brown rolls are sooo good!) Therefore, my family gets together often to enjoy each other's company and cooking. My greatest joy is six "little to tallerthanme" kids running around calling me Grammy. They wear me out! lolFor the past thirty years I have been a Special Education teacher for grades 9-12 and love it. Took some time off last year to recovery from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. (Loved the radiation....I keep imagining that we are absolutely napalming the nasty cancer cells tohellandback to keep the little suckers from returning. =) My prognosis is good and now "I'm back in the saddle again". lol. Being a north country "gurl", I am happiest outside...walking, fishing, sitting in front of an outdoor fire or being on water (although in February it's a bit stiff....=0) When indoors I like to read, garden, knit, quilt and paint. During cold Maine weather I like to warm my feet on a very large ( 100 pounds of long legs and huge feet), sweet and furry golden retriever named Kerry (aka KTBRD: Kerry the big red dawg..lol) . In the summer, the dawg and I round up the grandkids, hit the local dairy bar for a Mounds Sundae that is to die for!!!=0) . Then spend a lot of long and lazy summer days at camp . All in all...Boy, Life is good! =)
