The Allen County Public Library is using Dolly Parton’s favorite children’s book – “The Little Engine That Could” – as the inspiration for its next fundraiser, its executive director said.The library’s staff announced a new $100,000 fundraising campaign with the Allen County Public Library Foundation to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to local children. The program gives one free book each month to children from birth to age 5.https://lnkd.in/gpwkRd_b

Officials continue to look for solutions for the Allen County Jail’s overcrowding while the new facility’s construction is stalled, the sheriff said.Allen County Sheriff Troy Hershberger has asked local judges and the county prosecutor to help decrease the jail population by determining who can be released. The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, who joined former inmate Vincent Morris in the federal lawsuit, has warned officials it might request a court-ordered prisoner release if the jail continues to be overcrowded and understaffed, according to a status report.https://lnkd.in/ePx_izgH

Microsoft plans to expand its technology operations with a $1 billion data center in northwest Indiana, the governor’s office announced.The new facility, which will create up to 200 new jobs by the end of 2032 in La Porte, will accelerate cloud computing infrastructure to support growth in technology and artificial intelligence worldwide, Gov. The Fort Wayne Community Schools board will have four candidates to choose from when deciding who should serve the remainder of former member Rohli Booker’s term.Applicants for the open District 4 seat are Tyler Bowers, Heather Miller, Antonette Payne and Alexandria Stalter, the district said. Two Allen County judges and a prosecutor received a letter from the Sheriff's Department council asking the officials to release a “sufficient number” of inmates due to the jail’s overpopulation.The May 6 letter stated the Sheriff’s Department must inform all judges of the 38th Judicial District with criminal jurisdiction, the prosecutor and other stakeholders in Allen County when the jail population exceeds 731 individuals.On May 2, the total inmate count reached 734 individuals, the letter said, and the facility remained above capacity when the letter was sent.https://lnkd.in/g9wZNzf7
